Amber acquires Charge HQ to expand EV charging capabilities
Amber has acquired Charge HQ, a popular Australian electric vehicle (EV) smart charging app that enables users to optimise their charging for cost savings and emissions reduction. The acquisition further establishes Amber as a leader in the EV and renewable energy space, responding to the growing demand for smarter energy management solutions.
Charge HQ simplifies energy management for EV owners by enabling charging directly from rooftop solar, creating configurable schedules, and optimising charging based on grid conditions such as electricity prices and renewable energy availability. Its seamless integration with household energy systems ensures that homes can operate more efficiently, even when using a mix of solar, batteries, and EV chargers from different brands.
Charge HQ has gained strong support amongst its users for its innovative and practical approach to the management of EV charging, helping thousands of customers do so conveniently and cost-effectively. The Charge HQ app is compatible with the majority of OCPP EV chargers on the market in Australia
Amber co-CEO Chris Thompson said the acquisition is a pivotal milestone in Amber’s mission to provide Australians with the tools they need to take control of their energy use.
“Charge HQ’s technology is a fantastic addition to Amber’s offering, giving EV owners the ability to charge their vehicles in a way that maximises renewable energy use while also cutting costs,” he said.
“By combining Charge HQ’s capabilities with Amber’s real-time wholesale pricing technology, we’re giving our customers another powerful tool to help them save more while supporting Australia’s transition to renewable energy.”
Charge HQ co-founder Jay Banyer said: "Joining Amber means we can bring smarter, more advanced energy solutions to even more Australians.”
“We believe that Amber will be a great home for Charge HQ due to the strong alignment in company mission and focus on building great products for customers. This partnership will help us expand our impact and reach even more Australians looking for innovative ways to manage their energy usage."
Integrating Charge HQ’s capabilities strengthens Amber’s role as a leader in the sector, providing customers with advanced tools to capitalise on real-time pricing and maximise renewable energy usage. The acquisition also aligns with Amber’s advancements in vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, which is poised to play a significant role in Australia’s sustainable energy future.
This acquisition reflects Amber’s strategic focus on delivering transformative energy solutions that make renewable energy accessible and affordable for all Australians. Through smarter energy use and real-time insights, Amber continues to help Australians take control of their energy needs while accelerating the shift to a sustainable future.
