Time for a decisive shift on climate

“Code red for humanity”, with “no time for delay and no room for excuses”.

That’s how the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, described the findings of the newly-released report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and its 234 international scientists.

The message is there, loud and clear: we are living in the decisive decade to save the planet from the most catastrophic effects of climate change.

There’s never been a more important time for all of us to step up and take everyday action to lower our emissions, using the power within each of us to shift Australia and the world towards a brighter and more liveable future.

Thank you

Against this backdrop, we want to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of our customers at Amber for getting onboard with our mission to drive Australia to 100% renewables.

We’re super proud to say that by using energy when it is cheaper and greener, Amber customers are not only saving money - they’re also playing a crucial role in boosting demand for renewable power and putting Australia on the path to a more sustainable future.

After all, as fires and floods ravage many parts of the world, the IPCC’s most comprehensive report has confirmed it is “unequivocal” that human activities involving the burning of fossil fuels are warming the planet’s air, land and ocean - driving climate extremes across the globe.

Not only are global temperatures now forecast to rise towards the critical 1.5 degree tipping point as early as next decade, the report finds, but Australia will suffer more than most as the world warms, with longer, hotter summers, more bushfires and coastal erosion.

Home is where the heart is

As scary as these predictions might be, it doesn’t mean all is lost. In our own ways, each of us can still play our part in determining the direction we take from here.

At Amber, we’re working everyday to ensure that more Australians can make a difference by driving demand for renewables through their home energy use. After all, Australian households alone are directly responsible for about 20 per cent of Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions. The average household’s energy use generates over seven tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.

It’s why we’re bringing on more customers every day, and trialling technology such as SmartShift™ that makes it even easier for Aussies to shift their home energy demand to times when power is cheaper and greener.

By using more energy when it’s being generated by cheaper, greener renewables, we can each help to accelerate the transition to a future powered by renewables, and ultimately, do our bit to tackle climate change faster.

If you’re looking for a way to play your part in steering Australia and the world towards a more sustainable future, we’d love you to join us.
