Victorians struggling with surging power costs are being urged to make a simple change to slash their bills. It's as simple as shifting to a wholesale power company - and altering a household habit.

Data obtained exclusively by Yahoo Finance from Victorian Powerpal users has determined that seven out of 10 Victorians could reduce their energy bills by switching from a traditional electricity supplier to a wholesale one.

After comparing his family’s options, Dan decided to switch to wholesale electricity provider Amber Electric, which allows customers to access the real-time wholesale price of electricity, rather than a flat price.

For eligible customers, the energy retailer is waiving its membership fee for the first six months, earning customers a total saving of $114 on their electricity bills.

As Australians stare down a potential surge in electricity prices this year, many have found a way to fight back against rising power bills. From feed-in tariffs and rebates, going green could be the answer to long term savings.
